With its 12 years of history, Henatenn group has shown tremendous growth. We catch up with Shirley Lim, the Chief Operating Officer of Henatenn Group to find out how Henatenn’s operations team works and its growth stories over the years.

Introducing the Operations Team

Henatenn’s operations team has grown over the years. It’s currently divided into the operations and procurement team. These teams consist of talent that Henatenn has built up over the years and they each play value-added roles in the group’s operations processes.

By focusing on improving Henatenn Holding’s day-to-day business operations and processes, Henatenn’s operations team is positioned as a great value-adding team. They focus on mitigating pain points and issues that other teams experience in the course of their work.

How Henatenn’s Operations Team Uses Technology

Shirley added that as the organisation grew, they realised that technology was critical in the organisation’s day-to-day processes. Henatenn started off with manual work which was human-centric and error-prone, which led to the adoption of technology and automation.

The pandemic posed as a opportune moment for the operations team to relook and optimise their internal processes. During this downtime, they invested more in technology, revamping their ERP systems as well as their day-to-day processes with more API integrations, and automation, reducing manual work and ensuring system-to-system conversations.

Shirley added on regarding how the management team tackles new challenges:

“For me the best part of the job is that every day there are new challenges, especially when the group is transiting. You know you face different kinds of daily operational and strategic changes along the way.

Alongside the business management and the management team we make sound decisions together to walk a stronger path together.”

This is part of Henatenn’s Kampong Spirit. Everyone has their roles and responsibilities, but we come together as a team to solve big and small problems. The decision to invest in more technology and adopt more automation is one clear example of this in action.

Operations: Helping the Company Make the Fast and Accurate Decisions

Henatenn’s operations team ensures that the rest of the company, from sales to procurement or other business functions can make the fastest decisions and stock up the right amount of quality inventory. All this is achieved via end-to-end, seamless, agile processes including data and research.

Henatenn’s operations team prides itself on evolving with business market trends and continuing to serve Henatenn’s consumers with the right product and right mix of brands they look forward to.

Henatenn’s strong sales and procurement team drives the entire business with our retail stores, where they will drive stronger omnichannel presence closer to the customers: be it coming to brick-and-mortar stores for physical experiences or picking up their click-and-collect online orders.

The People and the Culture: The Best Part of the Job

Shirley ends off the interview with some thoughts about her team and the company:

“Our team is actually very young, with many of us around our 20s. It is always very fun. We are a very lean team.

We function independently with our core primary roles and responsibilities but on a regular basis we come together as a team and then work together to fulfil our objectives.

We are a young, fun-loving team. My team always gives me energy and I look forward to coming to the office the next day.”

Would you like to be part of a young, fun-loving team that retains its Kampong Spirit without shying away from keeping up with technology?
